Kavitha Lankesh

International and National Award Winning Film Director

Born in Karnataka, South India, Kavitha Lankesh’s foray into films began with a documentary on a children’s nature camp. Kavitha  has scripted, produced and directed over fifty socially relevant documentaries, a dozen corporate films and ten feature films.  

Feature Films

1999-Debut as director of a feature film in 35mm titled ‘Deveeri’ based on a novella written by Central Sahithya Academy winner P.Lankesh.

Deveeri won 12 State, 2 National, and 1 International awards, including the FIPRESCI Award (International Critics Award) and the National Debut Director Award for Kavitha Lankesh. Deveeri competed/ participated in 20 prestigious International Film festivals INCLUDING CAIRO INTERNATINAL FILM FESTIVAL.

2001 - A docu-fiction feature film in 35 mm titled ‘Alemaari’ (The Thirst) for the Films Division, Government of India.

2002- A feature film in 35 mm titled ‘Bimba’ (The Image). The film was about child artiste’s life in the film world which has never been dealt with before in Indian cinema.

Kavitha Lankesh won the State’s Best Screenplay award and the protagonist won the Best Child artiste award for Bimba.

2003- A feature film titled Preethi, Prema, Pranaya,

(Everybody needs love) a musical feature film was a box office hit and ran over 100 days in theatres all over Karnataka.  It won the National award for the Best regional film and also the Best screenplay award by the Karnataka State Government.

2006- Tananam Tananam a musical film that became a box office hit all over Karnataka, The lead actress won the Filmfare Award and SICA Award.

2007- A feature film titled  ‘Avva’ – Vignettes of a Village based on Sahitya Academy winner P.Lankesh’s novel ‘Musanjeya Kathaaprasanga’  ( A Twilight Tale). The film won the Karnataka State’s Best Story and Best supporting actress.

2012 – A Kannada feature film titled ‘ Krazy Loka’.

2013- Kariya Kanbitta – A Kannada feature film based on poet and writer Subbu

Holeyar’s story. The protagonist won the Karnataka Best Child Artists award,

2017- Summer Holidays _ A bilingual English and Kannada Feature  children’s feature film.


2004- Scripting and directing 15 new series of Tele-films of Malgudi Days in Hindi based on R.K.Narayan’s short stories and novel.

2008- Mega serial for Kasturi Vahini Channel titledNee Nadeva Haadiyali’ (In your footsteps)

2013- A serial called ‘Nanna Preethiya Shreemath’
