Prithvi Datta Chandra Shobhi

Prithvi Datta Chandra Shobhi works on the social history of medieval south India, with a specific focus on dissenting cultures. He studied history and literature at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and at the University of Chicago. Prithvi taught Humanities at San Francisco State University, before returning to India to take up a position at the Karnataka State Open University, Mysore. He is the editor of three books, including the translation of A.K. Ramanujan's Kannada poetry and fiction, which was published by OUP in 2005 as 'Poems and a Novella'. Prithvi's doctoral work on the relationship between vacana poetry and Virashaiva-Lingayat community is forthcoming. Prithvi has published extensively on the literature, culture and politics of Karnataka, both in scholarly forums and in popular media.
