Roopa D Moudgil

Roopa D Moudgil is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer belonging to Karnataka Cadre. She is the first woman Kannadiga IPS officer serving in Karnataka. Currently she holds the position of IGP and Addl Commandant General, Home guards and Addl Director, Civil Defence.

Roopa was ranked 43rd in the UPSC Civil Services Examination in the year 2000 and opted for IPS. She was ranked fifth amongst IPS officers of 2001 batch.

As DIG-Prison, she exposed the special facilities given to AIADMK leader Sasikala in Bengaluru prison. She also has taken on the mighty & the powerful including 2 Chief Ministers in her career spanning 17 years. She recently delivered a TEDx talk on “Why Bureaucrats Hesitate to Act”, published on 3rd Jan 2018 on YouTube, the abridged version of which crossed 3 Million views.

Roopa was awarded the prestigious President’s Police Medal for Meritorious service on 26th January 2016.
