Sanjay Swamy

Sanjay Swamy (@theswamy) is Co-founder and Managing Partner at Prime Vneture Partners, a seed-stage VC firm based out of Bangalore. Sanjay leads the charge on helping shape companies that have a specific focus on mobile applications, banking, financial services and mobile payments, with a firm philosophy of partnering with banks and financial institutions.

Sanjay has played a dual-role of investor and co-founder in Prime’s first two companies, ZipDial, a mobile marketing platform recently acquired by Twitter, as well as at Ezetap, a Smart-Mobile POS company. Sanjay is actively involved in various policy-shaping initiatives that are redefining banking and payments in India including being a volunteer with iSpirt. Prior to Prime, Sanjay played a key role in the Aadhaar project, where he worked on the authentication platform and its relationship to Payments, Banking, Insurance & Telecommunication services. Earlier he was the CEO of Mobile Payments startup mChek, a large-scale mobile payments provider that had massive distribution to more than 300M users across the Airtel and DoCoMo networks.

Sanjay has also worked for 11 years in Silicon Valley in various customer facing and marketing roles at Portal Software (acquired by Oracle), XEROX PARC, and Integrated Systems (acquired by WindRiver Systems). During his work in Silicon Valley, he has worked extensively with various industries including the Telecommunications, Media & Entertainment, Publishing, Automotive and Aerospace industries, in North America & Europe.

Sanjay has a Masters Degree in Flight Control from University Of Washington, Seattle, a Masters Degree in Avionics from ENSAE, Toulouse and a Bachelor of Engineering from Bangalore University. He speaks French fluently, in addition to Hindi, Kannada and English.

An avid cricket fan, Sanjay has a keen sense of humour and enjoys traveling. He lives in Bangalore with his wife Tulsi and son Ashwin.
