Sumit K Sen

Sumit K Sen has an abiding interest in documenting the birdlife of eastern India and protecting their environment. He is Co-author of The Sundarbans Inheritance and Birds of India, expert birder, photographer and conservationist.

His efforts in the field have resulted in the documentation of new information regarding some extremely rare birds found in India including the discovery of a new subspecies of Brown Shrike and the rediscovery of the long lost Large-billed Reed Warbler. Sumit also contributes articles which are published in the Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society, Sanctuary magazine, and peer-review articles for leading technical journals .

When not in the field, he manages a birding website 'Birds of India' at www.kolkatabirds.com and moderate Bengalbirds – an egroup focused at birding in eastern India, in addition to which he also has a large social network footprint with over 1.3 million followers on Google Plus.

He is currently the Honorary Wildlife Warden of South 24 Parganas covering the Sundarbans Biosphere Reserve in West Bengal, India.
