Tejashree J. N.

Tejashree J. N. is a well known poet, translator and educator from Hassan, Karnataka. She has a post-graduate degree in English and a Post Graduate Diploma in translation. She has taught English for more than a decade. She has published six collections of poems. Her poetry is characterised by bold exploration of themes and complex narrative structures. She has translated important writers such as Leo Tolstoy, Tagore, Pablo Neruda, Wole Soyinka, Shankha Ghosh and Sardar Ali Jaffery. ‘Rekkeyodea Mugilu’ is an anthology of one hundred poems by women poets from all over the world, selected and translated by Tejashree. She has explored the translation of discursive prose in works such as ‘Chini Tatvashastrada Kathe’ (Story of China’s Philosophy’). She has edited a volume of translated poems by Tagore. She has compiled and narrated the auto-biography of Dr. U.R. Ananthamurthy, the celebrated Kannada writer.

Tejashree has won eleven awards and prizes for her works. They include the prestigious Sri Vijaya Award conferred by Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Bendre Book Prize and G.S.S. Kavya Prashasti.

She was granted ‘Junior Research Fellowship’ by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. The topic of her dissertation was Tagore and the Kannada world: An Analytical Study of Tagore’s Translations in Kannada’. She represented Kannada in the National Symposium of Poets organized by All India Radio, at Indore, in January, 2018. She has presented a number of academic papers in seminars and symposiums.
