Sonam Kalra & The Sufi Gospel Project

Multiple award-winning singer and composer Sonam Kalra is a rare breed of musician who has been trained in, and is equally adept at, both Indian and Western traditions of music. She has a beautiful, powerful voice with an honesty and sensitivity that is rare. Sonam’s unique brainchild, ‘Sonam Kalra & the Sufi Gospel Project’ which blends the many voices of faith through poetry, prayer and music to create one universal voice of faith, has earned her domestic and international acclaim.

Traditional western gospels meld with Indian classical sounds, and Indian spiritual texts are enriched by elements of western poetry to create a sound that touches every soul. Amir Khusrau blends with the heartwrenching gospel tune Amazing Grace, Kabir Das shares the stage with the hymn Abide with Me, Bulleh Shah’s voice is heard amidst Gaelic music and Guru Nanak's words resonate in the plaintive strains of world folk sounds. Proving that many different hallelujahs can exist in harmony.

The White Mughals
William Dalrymple and Vidya Shah

William Dalrymple and Vidya Shah celebrate the tale of the ill-fated love between James Achilles Kirkpatrick and Khairuunisa. A story of love and betrayal, it shines a spotlight on a period of colonial history before the racism of the Raj came into being and attitudes between races were more open. Dalrymple reads from his award-winning book while Shah punctuates the narrative with music from the courts of 18th century Hyderabad and the poetry of the cities greatest courtesan, Mah Laqa Bai Chanda, whose diwan is one of the treasures of the British Library India collections.
